You mate a female merfolk with blue scales who is heterozygote for silent and a carrier of forked tail, to a silent male with blue scales who is also a carrier of forked tail. Which of the following are TRUE statements (you can choose more than one)

For this question ignore the phenotypes that are unmentioned. For example "a blue female" is a blue female who can be any colour, and either be silent or normal.

Select one or more:

a. The probability of a female offspring having a forked tail and blue scales is 1/3

b. The probability of an offspring from this mating having a forked tail and normal voice is 1/6

c. This mating can produce silent or normal voiced offspring

d. This mating can produce silent or normal voiced female offspring

Answer #1

Options A, C, D are correct.

Expalnation

The femaleparent are having Silent Gene (which is dominant) from a heterozygous nature which also has a non silent gene.

The male has Silent gene (which can be a heterozygous or homozygous) which can be a dominant or recessive.

In either cases the Silent Gene is going to be inherited.

There are two alleles of the scale colour gene – CB(blue) and CR (red)– CB and CR show incomplete dominance with heterozygotes being purple. The silent trait is X-linked and...

what is b and c? 1) In marsh lizards rough scale (st) is completely dominant to smooth scale (s). Eye colour is determined by an incompletely dominant sex-linked allele and can be blue (b+), or yellow (b) with the heterozygote giving green eyes. A further gene (t) controls tail formation giving rise to a bent tail in homozygotes, t allele is dominant with respect to straight tail formation but is a recessive lethal. Parental genotypes of following phenotypes: A smooth,...

    1. You decide to mate two flies and run analyses on the offspring. You mate a female fly that is true breeding for red eyes (R) and normal wings (N) with a male fly that is true breeding for black eyes (r) and vestigial wings (n). You then take one of the male fly babies from this cross, and mate it with a female fly that you have previously determined to have a genotype of RRNn. What Genotypic ratio would...
