Complete the table by identifying each component of cell cycle:

A - Interphase

B- G1 phase

C- S phase

D - G2 phase

E -Prophase

F - Metaphase

G- Anaphase

H - Telophase

I - Mitosis

J- Cytokinesis

  • Interphase - Preparatory phase or intermitosis
  • G1 phase - Also called as growth phase; Resume biosynthetic activities of the cell at faster pace
  • S phase -  DNA relication; the amount of DNA in the cell has doubled
  • G2 phase- Period of protein synthesis and rapid cell growth to prepare the cell for mitosis
  • Prophase - Chromosome condensed, nuclear envelope is not apparent, early mitotic spindle appears
  • Metaphase - Thick coiled chromosome each with 2 chromatids are lined up the metaphase plate
  • Anaphase -  Chromatid of each chromosome have separated and move towards poles
  • Telophase - The chromatids are at poles and became more diffusive. Nuclear envelope reformed.
  • Mitosis- M phase- nuclear division or karyokinesis.  
  • Cytokinesis - Seperation of cytosol. Result in 2 daughter cells
