Answer #1

Various characteristics used in taxonomy are morphology, Gram reaction, nutritional classification, cell wall, lipid, cell inclusions and storage products, pigments, carbon source utilization, nitrogen source utilization, sulfur source utilization, fermentation products, gaseous needs, temperature range, pH.

Phenetic classification based on the overall similarity of the organisms being classified.

Phylogenetic classification based on the evolutionary ancestry, classifying organisms on the basis of descent from a common ancestor.

Polyphasic classification takes into account all available phenotypic and genotypic data and integrates them in a consensus type of classification, framed in a general phylogeny derived from 16S rRNA sequence analysis.
