Answer #1

DNA fingerprinting is very much useful in forensic science in finding the culprits who had committed the crime. Dna fingerprinting uses any small fragments of a body part of victim, suspect and the evidence.

The process involves the profiling of all those DNA. DNA prfiling uses Short Tandem Repeat (STR) analysis.  If the profile matches with suspect, he will confirmed as the criminal by the investigator. Lets discuss within an example below:

Band Marker DNA (bp) Victim DNA (bp) suspect 1 DNA (bp) suspect 2 DNA (bp) Evidence DNA (bp)
1 13100 0 0 13100 13100
2 8516 0 8516 0 0
3 2447 0 0 2447 2447

Here , investigator confirms suspect 2 be the criminal as the DNA profiling matches exactly with the evidence DNA obtained.

In such a way, DNA fingerprinting plays a vital role in identifying the criminal.
