This is gelatin hydrolysis test, in which the microbiologist incubate the test and an un-inoculated tube for 48 hour at 37°C and then tubes from the incubator are placed refrigerate for at least 30 min. or until the control tube solidifies. Usually referigation is more preffered as Gelatin remains  liquid even at 28°C hence a lesser temerature is required and even helps to firm up gelatin.Limitation is Gelatinase acts at the surface of the medium. Shaking the tube while it is warm may result in false-negative interpretation.Gelatin may differ in gelling ability so always an uninoculated control should be kept with the test. The control must be refrigerated along with the test, prior to reading.
