Mendel second law of independent assortment states that alleles of two different genes are sorted separately during gamete formation.

Let there are two genes and whose alleles are A, a and B, b.

AABB crossed with aabb AaBb Self cross Gametes AB Ab aB ab AB ав Ab ab АВ AABB АавB AABb AaBb ав АаВВ аавB AaBb aaBb Ab AABb

As shown in the cross, the phenotype ratio is 9:3:3:1, as expected if the genes were independently assorted.
