Answer: The results of the tests carried out on Violet Vengeance (VV) and wild type during photosynthesis shows that chlorophyll absorption, oxygen production and ATP synthase activity in VV is similar to wild type whereas NADPH and G3P production is decreased in VV compared to wild type. During photosynthesis, PSII gets excited up on absorption of sun light and transfers electrons through electron transport chain, leading to ATP synthesis. During this process water splits and releases oxygen. As the the chlorophyll absorption and the process that occurs in PSII such as oxygen production and ATP synthase activity in VV is similar to wild type, it is clear that PSII is functionally active. So, option A and C are incorrect. PSI is involved in NADPH production. As the amount of NADPH is decreased between VV and wild type, there will be some defect in PSI that leads to decreasing in the NADPH production. Decreased in NADPH production leads to decrease in Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P) production because G3P synthesis that occurs by Calvin cycle requires NADPH and ATP.
