18. The organs protected by the thoracic cage include the Lung and the Heart. Ribs 1 to 7 are called True ribs or Vertebrosternal ribs. Ribs 8 to 12 are called False ribs or Vertebrochondral ribs. Ribs 11 and 12 are also called Floating ribs. The ribs articulate posteriorly with the T1 to T12 thoracic vertebrae, and most connect anteriorly to the costal cartilages to the sternum either directly or indirectly. The general shape of the thoracic cage is a domed birdcage.

19. The quadrangular shaped upper portion is Manubrium.

The second sub-division indicated by the leading line is the Sternum body.

The last part indicated is the Xiphoid process.
