Well, zoonosis is a disease that is transmited to humans from another animal, generally vertebrates.
What factors contribute to the emergence of a new zoonosis?
Tha major factors tend to be related to domectic animal management and animal contact related to hunt for eating purposes. Any disease is spread when there are not enough sanitary practices, lack of such sanitary practices in farming and pets may contribute to the emergence of such zoonosis. Similarly, hunting practices (wild animals) that lack of sanitary measures leads to zoonosis, since there might be pathogenic agents that, if not properly cooked, manage to infect a human.
The increasing contact with wild animasl due to human environmental overexploitation leads to emergence of such diseases too, even with regular sanitary measures.
What can be, or is being, done to prevent pandemic zoonoses?
The first and permanent measure is to care for the animal health, that means all the animals that have close contact with human population (pets and farming animals). In the case of farming animals, sanitary measures will follow the animal in each one of the stages in which they have contact to humans, that means during its life and growing stage and also during meat processing and comercial stages. The final sanitary step is to properly cook the meat, ensuring there is no pathogenic agent entering human populations.
In the case of experts that have regular contact with wild animals because of the nature of their job, extra sanitary measures are taken, like regular vaccionation and the use of specific equipment and practices to avoid direct or prolonged contact.
