HELP PLEASE!
I am proposing a hypothetical study where I believe a certain chemical is harmful to humans. I was told to do an animal study with just that chemical and compare it to a vehicle. (I will be testing certain hormone levels.)
- I do not understand what a vehicle group is, please explain this as simple as possible!
- Would the experimental group be the rats being tested on with that chemical, would the control group be the rats with no treatment, and I have no idea what the vehicle group would be?
Thank you in advance!
Hi..
As you are going to set up a vehicle control for your study, which basically mean that some substance ( for eg. Mineral oil or saline ) should be used as vehicle for interrogation of experimental compound ( chemical to be tested )
When you compare it with untreated compound, you are going to see if this vehicle alone is causing any effects or not.
And, ofcourse the experimental groups are the rats being tested for that chemical.
Control group contains rat which are not being treated for that chemical under similar conditions. Controls are basically used to study the effect of any genetic, environmetal or infectious agent which can potentially effect the outcome of your studies.
