Good genes and runaway selection. Good gene theory states that the female will choose a male with traits which she thinks are indicators of the ability of the male to pass on good genes to produce more healthy offsprings. Runaway sexual selection tells that when a trait of one sex is favoured by another sex, that trait will evolve in subsequent generations thus in turn increasing the preference for the trait. So in this case birds with green gulars are preferred by the females as this indicates that the birds are healthy and will pass on good genes to the offsprings and this trait evolve rapidly in subsequent generations and are more preferred by the females.
