When there is a difference in concentration of a particular nutrient within the soil solution, the nutrient will move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

Through the process of diffusion, soil delivers appreciable amounts of Potassium to the root surface of the plants which are uptaken by the palnts later.

This involves a cationic exchange reaction between Potassium and Hydronium ion, where uptake of Potassium by plants release Hydronium ions back to soil.

When the concentration of Hydronium (H+) ions is increased in the soil, the pH of soil increases (as pH = -log(H+)) and the soil therefore becomes more acidic.
