Rodents belong to the largest order of mammals i..., Rodentia. There are about 2,300 species in the order Rodentia. Appooximately 42% of extant mammalian species are represented by Rodents. The animals of order Rodentia have varying structural and functional features, which support their morphology and help in their locomotion, burrowing, gliding etc. Even though there are many families under the Rodentia, many of them exhibit similarities or convergence in their properties, that shows their evolutionary similarity or convergent evolution. The convergence in bipedal locomotion is exhibited the species of the families, heteromyidae, dipodidae, Pedetidae and Muridae. Convergence in Gliding is exhibited by Sciurids and Anomal wrids Convergence in fosserial habit is exhibited by Geomyids, bathyergids, Ctenomyids and certain murids. Thus, the convergence in Rodents can be explained.
