Answer #1

Viability Selection

In this scenario, Butterflies are selected according to their genotype. This is not an example of Fecundity selection because mate preference is not a factor here. It cannot be frequency-dependent selection because the Virus is only selecting individuals with the 'a' allele. This is not Artificial selection as there is no Human intereferecnce to the process.

18 1 point Aposematic (warning) coloration protects species from predators. Predators learn these patterns quickly when there are many individuals with that color pattern (so more individuals escape being eaten), and slowly when there are very few individuals with that color pattern (so fewer individuals escape being eaten. On the island of Notion, in the Factotum Archipelago, there lives a population of pencil bears. A portion of these bears have silky fur, and as a result, are much better surfers. The texture of the fur is determined by a single autosomal locus with two alleles: S (trait allele) and s (wild type allele). In a recent study, researched collected the values in the following table: Table 1. Counts of Pencil Bear fur style by genotype Phenotype Genotype Silky...

Mendelian Genetics The gene involved in the disease Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) is on human chromosome 11. Allele “A” is the normal form of the gene and codes for a part of the protein complex called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is required for your blood cells to carry oxygen. Allele “a” is an abnormal form of the gene. The hemoglobin protein made from the “a” allele is defective. Red blood cells containing the defective protein are very fragile. This disease is recessive–meaning...

In that population a mutation results in a parasite resistant genotype that spreads through the population through natural selection. A subsequent mutation in the parasite results in a genotype that is unaffected by the newly evolved resistant guppy genotype. What is the name of the hypothesis that explains this host parasite “arms race”.? 1b) What is this name...

I posted this question before but no answer I need to submit in 4 hours, please help. Although the following scenario is hypothetical, it is based on actual facts. Sickle cell anemia is an inherited form of anemia. Those with sickle cell anemia do not have enough healthy red blood cells to adequately carry oxygen to all the cells in their body. Normal red blood cells are flexible and round, and can easily move through the blood vessels. However, in...
