Explain Focus-forming unit reduction assays (FFURA) as simple as possible
(different from focus forming assay)
a. When is this method used?
b. Explain the protocol for it (in the simplest form as possible)
Focus forming unit reduction assay(FFURA) is used to check the antiviral activity of substances like baicalin,a substance derived from Scutellaria baicalensis.FFURA is used to check the invitro antiviral activity.the percentage of foci reduction is obtained by comparing against untreated controls which are maintained in parallel
A)This method is used to evaluate in vitro anti dengueviral activity daily upto three days after the infection had occured
B)the protocol of FFURA:
Baicalein is added in the different phases of infection and the foci formed are compared with the untreated controls
the phases in which baicalein is added are: pretreatment, for 5 hours prior to infection for its prophylactic activity
during treatment, during virus adsorption, treatment for 4 days postadsorption
the percentage of foci reduction is then compared with the controls which are not treated with baicalein, and the antiviral activity is assessed

What's simple random sampling? Is it possible to sample data instances using a distribution different from the uniform distribution? If so, give an example of a probability distribution of the data instances that is different from uniform (i.e., equal probability). What's stratified sampling? What's "the curse of dimensionality"? Provide a brief description of what Principal Components Analysis (PCA) does. [Hint: See Appendix A and your lecture notes.] State what's the input and what the output of PCA is.
03/viewContent/39478147/View Unit Activity 8: Oxidation-Reduction in Batteries In Chapter 8 we learn about oxidation-reduction reactions. This type of reaction is very prevalent in our everyday life, usually in the form of batteries. There are currently many different types of batteries. Their sizes and the materials they are made of vary depending on what they are being used for and how much energy is being supplied. In this activity, you will contrast and compare two different types of batteries that are...

5. a. Draw simple band pictures to distinguish a metallic conductor from a semi-conductor. b. Explain how and why the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity can be used to distinguish a metallic conductor from a semiconductor. c. Pure niobium oxide (NiO) is an insulator. When it is heated in the presence of oxygen gas the resulting material becomes a semiconductor. Does the oxidation of Ni(II) to Ni(III) correspond to n-doping or p-doping? Explain using band pictures.
