Answer #1

Mutation in ade 1 or ade 2 result in the formation of the red pigment by the oxidation of P-ribosylaminoimidazole or AIR. Any mutation that blocks the oxidation of AIR will result in white colonies. So mutstion upstream of ade 1 and 2 will result in white colonies as this will further inhibit the pathway. Option B is correct. ADE4 works upstream of the red pigment and ADE2 works downstream of the red pigment. Mutation in ade2 will lead to the accumulation of AIR which upon oxidation will lead to red colonies.

QuesLIUI IU A special strain of wild type yeast can produce both an "Important Biomolecule" and a "Super Stinky Biomolecule" in the pathway shown below. You have two haploid mutants (Mut1 and Mut2). Mut1 produces the "important biomolecule" at low levels and is mildly stinky. Mut2 is still super stinky but cannot produce the "important biomolecule". Which of the options below are consistent with the experimental observations? Compound E (odorless) Important Biomolecule (odorless) ... eru2 - Compound A (odorless) Compound...

t cells that are wildtype for the genes in the adenine pathway are of growing on minimal media lacking adenine. In parallel experiments, we O treat a wildtype culture of yeast cells with one of three mutagens: nitrous acid (a deaminating agent), UV light, and the intercalating agent, acridine orange. We obtain several adenine deficient colonies [ade- with each of the treatments and one mutant from each treatment condition is chosen for further analysis. DNA sequence analysis reveals that each...
