How does the Parable of the Sadhu illustrate today’s ethical business challenges?
Answer 1)
In the parable of the sidhu it was more like where Mr Mccoy an managing director of Stanley participated in six month sabbatical programme wher he has to spend 60 days in mountain or Himalayas.
He met with people from many other countries who have participated in the same programs. While heading towards the journey in between they have saw an Indian sadhu who was shivering and suffering from hypothermia because of the cold.
Everyone out there tried to help or revive him and give their best but no one has taken the full responsibility of his wellness.
Then Mr. Mccoy realised the same thing that every one contributed to help him individually but didn't take full responsibility.
They all had walked by an ethical dilemma without any needed action to help the sadhu.
No one has shown his ethical responsibility till sadhu whole wellbeing.
Same In today's ethical business the challenges are-
1) Social media platform-
This platform has been made to Express your thoughts or issues or to communicate with millions of people at time but if an employee of a company who is doing business write against the misbehave of the company or illigeal activities or explotation. The company will straight away fire that employee.
One side company has made policies and employees engagement terms and norm and on the other side if some one complaints they will simply fire the employee.
The ethical responsibility of the business of that company is zero here and it is happening in many places.
2) Harassment and discrimination-
Various big business companies have made policies and terms against harassment and discrimination but when it happens inside the companies they try to hide it to keep their business name safe and do not follow the policies by themselves.
The ethical and moral responsibility here doesn't work as like in the parable of sadhu where all thinks that they have done their things by helping sadhu some gave food ,some graves his clothes but no one has taken the full responsibility of the sadhu.
269 percent of cases has been increased in business related to discrimination in salaries, colour, position in businesses and sexual harassment.
3) Health and protection-
Various business model and companies have made law to give health insurance to their employees .The challenge here to keep their employees safe but when it comes to insurance it changes.
Businesses run out of their ethical and moral duties as it has happened in Parabale of sadhu
