The principle of osmosis can be applied to solve the problems. Simply put, osmosis states that water will move from a position of lower solute concentration, to a position where the solute concentration is higher. The outcome of this movement of water/solvent is to ensure that the concentration of solutes is equal both inside and outside the cell.
Solutions
3.a
Beaker A: The solution is isotonic, water will neither move in or out; the cell will neither swell nor shrink.
Beaker B: The solution is hypotonic, water will move in; the cell will swell.
Beaker C: The solution is hypertonic, water will move out of the cell; the cell will shrink.
3.b
The cell in beaker A is Isotonic to the solution in the beaker.
The cell in beaker B is Hypertonic to the solution in the beaker.
The cell in beaker C is Hypotonic to the solution in the beaker.

Please Refer to This Lab Background: Procedure Only one group prepares each type of extract, and then shares the extract. Make enough for all of the groups. Cut a piece of the tissue to be tested, approximately 4x4 cm. Cut into smaller pieces; then grind in a mortar and pestle with a pinch of sand and 8 mL of deionized water to break the cell walls and release the catalase into solution. Place the mortar and pestle on the side...

EXPERIMENT 4 Pre-Lab Assignment Separating a Mixture, Recrystalliration Name Date 1. Complete the following flowchart which shows how to separate a mixture of sand, sodium chloride and acetanilide. Notice that after a separation process (a down arrow) the filtered solids are shown on the left and the filtrate (the liquid) is shown on the right. The terminal step...

This is the lab experiment and results:
This is a guide to making the lab report:
General Biology BIO121 Yeast Fermentation Lab Introduction Organisms stay alive by the utilization of energy through metabolism. The energy acquiring pathways in photosynthesis convert radiant energy from the sun into the chemical bond energy of carbohydrates. This photosynthetic process is limited to the producers or autotrophs, which include plants, photosynthetic bacteria and some protists....

INTRODUCTION In this section, you will introduce the experiment by explaining generally what you did and why you did it. This section usually starts with an examination of the literature through a library search to inform the reader about work already done on this topic. If you have never done a bibliographic database search for scientific journal articles, then you are not yet a biological sciences major (note:...

Can you please explain in simple terms the methods of this experiment? I'm having difficulty visualizing and understanding what is being done. I have copied and pasted some of the text from the article. Thank you! Abstract : Obesity, high-fat diets, and subsequent type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are associated with cognitive impairment. Moreover, T2DM increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and leads to abnormal elevation of brain beta-amyloid levels, one of the hallmarks of AD. The psychoactive alkaloid caffeine...
Please read the article and answer about questions. You and the Law Business and law are inseparable. For B-Money, the two predictably merged when he was negotiat- ing a deal for his tracks. At other times, the merger is unpredictable, like when your business faces an unexpected auto accident, product recall, or government regulation change. In either type of situation, when business owners know the law, they can better protect themselves and sometimes even avoid the problems completely. This chapter...
