Clean Diamond Trade Act (CDTA)

The Clean Diamond Trade Act (CDTA) is an Act signed by President George W. Bush in 2003 to implement the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). The certification process was designed to regulate the commercial sale of diamonds. The act mandates a Kimberley Process Certificate for all diamond imported to and exported from the United States. The main objective was to prohibit the import of diamonds from the countries in which diamond mining results in social conflict.
