Case Study 1: Faster Recruiting Needed at Intuit
Intuit is a software company that produces four products: TurboTax, QuickBooks, ProConnect, and Mint. The company’s mission is “powering prosperity around the world.” To accomplish its mission, Intuit needs to attract top talent, the majority of whom have strong technical skills. Until recently, the company could advertise for employees, bring them in for multiple interviews, and then make a decision about who to hire. With the lower unemployment rate overall in the United States and the higher demand for technology workers around the world, Intuit now finds itself needing to put candidates through one day of tests and interviews and make a quick decision—sometimes even making the offer the same day as the interview.
Founded in 1983, the company now has 8,300 employees worldwide and has received accolades, including being named a Fortune 100 “Best Company to Work For” for 16 consecutive years. The company also has been named a “Best Workplace for Diversity” and a “Best Workplace for Women.” In fiscal year 2017, Intuit’s revenue was $5.2 billion. The employee culture is one of innovation, action, and passion about the work that employees perform.
The company believes strongly in corporate social responsibility. With each Intuit Prosperity Bundle of TurboTax and QuickBooks purchased, the company donates $25 to a Kiva entrepreneur. (Kiva is an international non-profit focused on connecting people through lending and has a goal of reducing poverty). Overall, Intuit has donated 30,000 employee hours to charity, reduced their building carbon footprint by 64%, and made product donations worth $42 million.
