The shear strength of prestressed components are due to the contribution of concrete(vc) , transverse steel (Vs) and vertical component of prestressed force (Vp) as per LRFD 2004 code.

Transverse reinforcement (stirrups) resists shear once the concret cracks by developing tension in the transverse steel. It also helps increase shear resistance by keeping inclined crack widths
small, which improves aggregate interlock. The magnitude of the shear resistance provided by transverse reinforcement (stirrups) is depends upon yield strength, cross section area and distribution of all steel in it.
