Many of you may be aware of the T-mobile and Sprint proposed merger (and that the merger was approved by the FCC ). Specifically answer this prompt: Do you agree or disagree with the merger and why? What does the Department of Justice use as a tool to help decide whether to agree to or block the merger?
1. A stance on the merger and explanation why, as well as some
economic tools the Department of Justice uses to decide.
2. Include a detailed and accurate application of one or more of
the concepts: oligopoly and anti-trust regulation, the
concentration ratio, the HHI, government goals of regulation.
answer-
I do not agree with this merger because from economical point of view, this merger will affect economy of country. The merger will cause high prices and unfair competition in the market.
as we all know that anti trust law is made for protection of consumers and benefit them . This law also prohibit unhealthy and predatory competition practices. i assume this merger is that kind of practice because in start they would promise good benefits like deployment of 5G, low price internet packs etc but as the time goes by then they will start to increase their prices because two companies are big telecommunication companies merging so there are not so many alternatives present for customers to go to.
This shows in future, with less alternatives we would have to pay the price of plans they decide. this is why i am not agree with this meger. the more substitute/alternatives present the more benefit customers get.
