A doctorate in Information Technology covers research on the business, economic, and organizational aspects and implications of digital and information technologies. Anyone participating in such a programs needs to have sound understanding of the technologies lying underneath, in addition to their economic effects. It focuses its research on emerging technologies and how they have changed and impactged the market, bringing itno role new business models.

Graduates with a PhD in IT get the benefit of working with their faculty sponsor, doing individual research and get to solve difficult and unsolved problems/cases. Students gain investigative skills and further develop quantitative skills. In addition, their critical thinking skills are strengthened and they are able to create new applications and form theories that further advance the field.

There are various colleges and universities that offer a doctorate rpgram in information technology including Unicaf University (MW), Czech Technical University in Prague, University of Johannesburg, etcetra. A lot of these institutions make the study program available online so you can pursure a PhD in IT no matter where in the world you are.

My area of recent research would be Blockchains. Blockchain is a technology that has the capabilities to lay ground work for a trust based internet segment and needs a lot of exploring still.

You may thank bitcoin, altcoins (cryptocurrency), and ICOs (Initial Coin Offering) for the rise of blockchain. Thousands of blockchains have already been created and available publicly on GitHub and other open source platforms.

According to a survey, 58% of large enterprises are thinking of a way to implement blockchain in their projects.

There are three key reasons why blockchain is becoming mainstream today:

1. Increased digital processing power
2. Rapid growth in cybercrimes
3. Rise of bitcoin and cryptocurrency

Using the knowledge I gain in my doctoral program I would like to be able to help aid the coming of Blockchains as an accepted technology for doing secure transactions amongst peers. WIth the increasing amount of cyber crime today, we as IT professionals need to always keep a step ahead and Blockchain will help us do just that.
