Answer #1

Functional imaging of the brain is used to study the human brain function. Several techniques can be used such as Electroencephalography EEG, Magnetoencephalography MEG, functional Magnetic resonance imaging fMRI, Positron emission tomography PET, and optical imaging.

These techniques such as EEG , is helpful to find problems related to electrical activity of the brain. It helps the neuro surgeon to track and record the patterns of brain waves. The results are recorded on computer using thin electrodes which are placed on the scalp.

Conditions such as seizures, head injuries, epilepsy, brain tumors, sleeping problems, dizziness, headaches, etc can be diagnosed. It is also used to confirm the brain death of a patient.

*MUST BE 500 WORDS* While much of cognitive neuroscience focuses on functional brain imaging, there are significant insights to be gained from various forms of structural imaging, from the macro through meso to micro scales. Discuss the insights that such structural information can provide, including at least three different approaches, as well as examples of insights that have been provided by actual studies.

Fluoroseopy Fluoroscopy is a studdy of moving body strctures. It is an imaging technique that uses X-rays pass the body part to he esamined to obtain real time moving images of the internal structures of a patie the use of a fluoroscope. In its simplest form, a fluoroscope eonsists of an X-ray source and fluoew between which a patient is placed. It is most commonly used to view the upper Gl tract (stomach, cduodenum, the lower GI tract. Modern huoroscopes...

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a technique for measuring changes in the magnetic field of the brain caused by external stimuli such as touching the body or viewing images of food. Such a change in the field occurs due to electrical activity (current) in the brain. During the process, magnetic sensors are placed on the skin to measure the magnetic field at that location.... Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive technique used to stimulate regions of the human brain. A small coil is placed on the scalp, and a brief burst of current in the coil produces a rapidly changing magnetic field inside the brain. The induced emf can be sufficient to stimulate neuronal activity. One such device generates a magnetic field within the brain that rises from zero to 1.7 T in 100 ms.
