The definition of photosynthesis always includes the term organic molecules instead of sugar because organic molecules formed are absolutely carbon-based molecules. Term "Sugar" is actually the processed form of sugar cane. One more possibility for the terminology may include if it is using CO2 in their reactants and its product can form many types of carbohydrates such as glyceraldehyde, which is not a sugar but a organic molecule.
