Because the type of soil structure determining the water holding capasity of the soil. Soil texture is based on the sizes of mineral particles making up the soil. Heavy soil particle such as clay have greater water holding capacity, so they can support good vegetation. But in the case of fine soil particle such as sand have low water holding capacity, hence sustain less vegetation.
