1) Intro to 1602 Display:

a) True or False: The on-board controller for the 1602 display allows it to accept either a sequential pair of 4 bits (2 nibbles) of data or 8 bits (one byte) at a time. So as to not use so many digital output pins, the display is often driven in 4 bits mode. To use even fewer digital output pins, an I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) serial interface board may be used. [you may have to look up the last part of this question on the Internet.]

b) True or False: The A & K pins on the 1602 LCD module are used to control the contrast on the screen.

c) True or False: The 1602 model display gets its model number because it has 16 characters x two rows.

Answer #1

a)

In a display Control Instruction, DB4 bit of Function Set called DL i.e. Data Length Control Bit defines Serial interface.

DL = 1, 8-bit bus mode

DL = 0, 4-bit bus mode

Hence TRUE statement.

b) Pin 3, Vo is used to control contrast where as A & K pins controls Backlight.

Hence, FALSE statement.

c)

Display got 16 columns and 2 Rows and hence got its model number.

Hence TRUE statement.
