A rectangular channel lined with concrete n=.013 with bottom width b=2.5m is laid on a slope of S0=.006. For this channel estimate the critical slope that will have a normal depth of flow of yc=1.5. What is the limit slope SL of this channel? Is the actual slope of the channel greater or less than the limit slope SL?

Answer #1

The smallest slope which is critical and produces a given normal depth is called limiting slope SL, for defined values of channels shape and roughness. The critical uniform flow can be obtained by adjusting the critical slope and discharge and the slope at which this happens is called the Critical slope of normal depth Scn.
