talk me through this, help me define the events, I figure we have to use Bayes theorem..
If you `follow` a particular route through a jungle, it is known that the probability of being bitten by a certain poisonous snake species is 0.001. The probability of "dying" as a result of a bite of this kind is 0.05;
What is the probability of `dying` of a bite from this snake species if you` follow` this route through the jungle "?";
There are 2 Events:
Event A: = you` follow` a particular route through the jungle and you are bitten by a certain poisonous snake species
Event B = you die
Conditional Event B/A = You die, given that you are bitten by such a snake
Given:
P(A)= 0.001
P(B/A)= 0.05
By Baye's Theorem of Probability:
P(AB) = P(you` follow` a particular route through the jungle and
you are bitten by a certain poisonous snake species AND you die as
a result of a bite of this kind ) = P(A) X P(B/A)
= 0.001 X 0.05
= 0.00005
So,
The probability of `dying` of a bite from this snake species if you` follow` this route through the jungle = 0.00005
So,
Answer is:
0.00005
