Consider this quote by Alan Cohen: “It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.”

It is absolutely true to embrace the new and to release the familiar we need courage. It is really powerful to adapt to new changes. One would be able to hone his/her skills in the pursuit of change. It is highly powerful. It is amazingly full of life! Alan Cohen’s quote is the reality. There is no security in following things that does not have any meaning. This actually would be a hurdle in the pursuit of changes. Let us first see Alan Cohen’s quote statement wise:

In the first statement, Alan Cohen states that it requires lot of courage to accept the fact to determine factors or things that are familiar. Though these are familiar, it might not have the real value to its existence. One has to be courageous enough to accept this fact. Acceptance is awesome!! However, only few would be ready to accept this fact. That’s why it requires courage to do this. Another factor is the realization that it is secure to embrace the new. Whenever a change occurs, there is resistance that follows. This is because people are feeling insecure due to its occurrence. For example, in an organizational setting, if there is a change, then employees might resist it because they feel it threatened to their employment. This change needs to be overcome by emphasizing the fact that change is powerful to combat any competition.

Alan Cohen also emphasizes that there is no real meaning in clinging on to something that does not have meaning. This means that people cling on to the same ways that they have been following for decades. Though they do not have any meaning, they feel that it is important to adhere to those things. It might be due to their values and beliefs. Alan Cohen states that there is no real meaning and no real security in things that is no longer meaningful. It is pertinent to not that it requires courage in oneself recognizing this fact and Ofcourse accepting them.

Finally, I personally agree to Alan Cohen’s quote that “There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.” Change is inevitable. Change brings in more security as the person or entity would be able to adapt to the changes in the environment. Security (such as gaining confidence) is obtained from adventures and excitement. One learns the journey to success through this adventurous journey. In this movement (pursuit) of adventure, one can find the real meaning of life. There should be a meaning in everyone’s existence. This is possible in this movement of adventure and excitement. I have personally witnessed the meaning of life in this process. Change is power. Change gave me the confidence to survive even in worst scenarios. People now say I am the survival of the fittest. This was possible only through change. Change is essential for the growth of an individual and the organization. Thus, Change is power and gives power to oneself.
