Let us talk about the Control Chart:-

So what does the Control chart does basically? In layman terms, Control chart is a tool used to monitor whether a process is under control or not.

Definitively Speaking, It is a time series graph with the process mean being at the center and the control limits on both sides of it. The values lying outside of the control limits show us that the process is out of control. Also, There are several other criteria using which the out-of-control nature of the process is detected.

There are various types of Control chart:

For Continous Data, we have Individual Moving Range Chart, X Bar-R chart, X Bar-S chart and for discrete data, we have

np -chart and p -chart.

A very famous Application of the Control chart is When Should NHL Goalies Get Pulled?

What they did is they generated 3-sigma lower control limits for each of 10 goalies based on their 2011-2012 game-by-game save percentages. Then they created an EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) chart to help determine if there were longer-term trends or shifts in a goalie’s save percentage. Hitting the lower control limit in an EWMA chart is evidence that a negative shift in the save percentage (in other words, a cold spell) has been identified. Coaches should monitor streaky goalies more closely and establish a rule about when to pull the goalie. Due to the cold spells that streaky goalies encounter, there may be justification to pull these goalies even more quickly (for example, using a 2.5 sigma limit).
