The Ross’ Goose population has exploded from an estimated population of 100 000 in the 1960s, to a currently estimated population of over 3 million. The geese spend their summers in the Arctic, and feed on the Arctic vegetation. Because of their sheer numbers, the geese are stripping areas of the Arctic tundra of all vegetation, thereby jeopardising the future of their own species, and all other species that depend on the Arctic vegetation as a food source. What can be done to preserve the Arctic vegetation, and ensure that it continues to be a food source for many Arctic species, including the Ross’ Geese
List at least 5 solutions for the issue above.
Each area has a particular carrying capacity for a population. Beyond that the area can't hold . The Ross geese present in the arctic region will have a carrying capacity. So excess increase in the population size will be harmful for the survival of its own population. So the size of the population has to be controlled by various means.
1.Restricting the nesting sites can reduce the population size to increase in future.
2.Restricting the movement of geese can also reduce the available food for geese. This will in turn reduce the food supply and control their population size.
Only way to preserve the vegetation is to reduce the numbers of the Ross geese.
