Given a list of filenames, we want to rename all the files with extension hpp to the extension h. To do this, we would like to generate a new list called newfilenames, consisting of the new filenames. Fill in the blanks in the code using any of the methods you’ve learned thus far, like a for loop or a list comprehension.

filenames = ["program.c", "stdio.hpp", "sample.hpp", "a.out", "math.hpp", "hpp.out"] # Generate newfilenames as a list containing the new filenames # using as many lines of code as your chosen method requires. ___ print(newfilenames) # Should be ["program.c", "stdio.h", "sample.h", "a.out", "math.h", "hpp.out"]

Answer #1

CODE:

filenames = ["program.c", "stdio.hpp", "sample.hpp", "a.out", "math.hpp", "hpp.out"]
# Generate newfilenames as a list containing the new filenames
# using as many lines of code as your chosen method requires.

#declaring list and initialised with empty list
newfilenames = []
#Loop to iterate through the file names
for file in filenames:
#if the filename string contains substring '.hpp'...
if ".hpp" in file:
#... then slice the string upto last by leaving last two characters and append
# here file[:-2] makes starting to last without last two characters
newfilenames.append(file[:-2])
else:
#if filename doesn't contain .hpp
# append that file name without any change
newfilenames.append(file)
#printing newfilenames
print(newfilenames)
# Should be ["program.c", "stdio.h", "sample.h", "a.out", "math.h", "hpp.out"]

CODE SCREENSHOT:

OUTPUT:

Here we search for .hpp substring in filename string (if '.hpp' in file)

If it found then we remove last two characters from the string so it will convert to .h

we slice the string using indexing like file[:-2]

Please MAKE SURE of INDENTATION of the CODE

Please Don't forget to UPVOTE my solution and Comment if you have any Doubts. I will definitely help you.

    Can you comment notes along with the code so I can follow along and understand what is being written?? Thanks in advance! Let's say we're in a directory and we want to rename every file ending in·c, to end in .C (i.e., capitalize the c'). Here's one way to do it: $ for i in *. c; b-basename "$1" .c'; mv "8b.c" do "8b.C". done Things get more complicated if you want more complex renaming. Say for example you just...

We would like to store their object references in a single array and then call their method display one by one in a loop. However, in Java,...

    Question:Many files on our computers, such as executables and many music and video files, are binary files (in contrast to text files). The bytes in these files must be interpreted in ways that depend on the file format. In this exercise, we write a program data-extract to extract integers from a file and save them to an output file. The format of the binary files in this exercise is very simple. The file stores n integers (of type int). Each...
