Name two entities that you can think of in the described Quiz Management System below:

Suppose that you develop a new separate and independent Quiz Management System for CSCI 359. The instructor and the students will be the user of this system. TAMUC e-mail server and SKYPE are two external systems this system will interact with. The instructor selects a date and time for a Quiz; prepares a sample set of questions and e-mail them to each student. The instructor uses SKYPE and calls each student for text chat exactly at the scheduled date and time. The called student needs to respond. The instructor and the called student chats: the instructor asks one question at a time and the student answers each question. This exchange continues until the instructor decides to end the questions. At the end, the instructor sends his evaluation to the student and the chat ends.

What is an entity

Entity is an object belonging to the real world which has unique attributes and will be represented as class or a table in a database. In the given requirements, which has to be developed as a system , we have to identify the entities and concentrate on strong entities though it has some weak entities which can be ignored when they are irrelevant and can be maintained as attributes in an entity.

Major entities identified are

1. Instructor
2. Student
3. Quiz
4. Evaluation

Though the requirement says the instructor and the student are users of the system , they are also entities which are strong entities. But in this scenario ,since it asks to name 2 entities ,which we can name the following as the key important entities:

1. Quiz entity is the set of questions asked by instructor which may have Quiz_ID, Question_Category , Question and Quiz_Date_time as attributes
2. Evaluation entity is the answer result for the student who answered on a particular date and time . It may be Quiz_ID, Answer , CorectOrFalse_status, Student_ID , Score as attributes.

We also have 2 more external systems as entities such as mail server and skype which may not be needed in the system as we will maintain the skype id and skype name of the student as attributes in the student entity .

Mail server will provide mail ids to the instructor and the student. So mail id attributes also can be added as attributes to the Instructor and the student entities.

If we need to store the mail server details as an entity , we can store it as a separate entity not relating to any other entities.
