2.A sample of SO2 gas has a volume of 5.09×103 mL at 2.31 atm and -176.73 °C. Calculate the new temperature (in K), when the volume of the gas is decreased by 479 mL. Assume the pressure does not change.

Answer #1

Ans :

At constant pressure , volume of a gas is directly proportional to its temperature

It is given as :

V1T2 = V2T1C

V1 = 5.09 x 103 mL

T1 = -176.73 C = 96.42 K

V2 = 5.09 x 103 mL - 479 mL = 4.611 x 103 mL

putting values :

5.09 x 103 x T2 = 4.611 x 103 x 96.42

T2 = 87.35 K

So the new temperature will be 87.35 K
