Viral infections like  zika virus affect the development of the brain and the central nervous system as follows:

Zika infection spreads from the circulating blood into the brain.

Zika virus is , a positive - sense RNA flavivirus, causes serious neurological problems,including microcephaly, cortical thinning and blindness during early development.

It can cause substantial damage to the developing human brain.

_ If a woman is infected when pregnant the virus can damage brain cells in the unborn fetus.

and this condition is microcephaly in which the baby is born with an abnormally small head and brain.
