You are studying ferrets which come in two colours, brown ferrets and albino ferrets; brown (A) is dominant to albino (a). You cross a heterozygous brown ferret with an albino ferret and get the following offspring: 30 brown 20 albino You perform a chi-square test comparing your results to your expectations; how many degrees of freedom are associated with this test?

Select one:

a. 2

b. 0

c. 1

Answer #1

The degree of freedom is calculated by following formula:

Degree of freedom = n-1

Here n is number of phenotype. As given in the question that there are two type is individual : albino and brown.

That's why n=2

Now degree of freedom is =2 - 1

= 1

That's why right option is 1.

You are studying the inheritance of coat color in guinea pigs. You hypothesize that dark brown fur(B) is dominant to black fur(b). You mate homozygous black guinea pigs with homozygous brown guinea pigs. All of the F1 offspring have dark brown fur. The F1 offspring breed with each other, producing the F2 generation. Your experiment results in 100 F2 offspring, 30 of the F2 offspring are black and 70 of the F2 offspring are brown. Use Chi square analysis to...

You are studying two genes in corn that you believe may be linked: seed shape and and kernel color. You cross two true-breeding corn plants (one with red kernels and round seeds to one with yellow kernels and wrinkled seeds) and receive all red- kerneled, round seed offspring. You then perform a test-cross using the F1 offspring and a yellow-kerneled, round seed corn and receive the following result: 610 red kernels, round seeds 90 yellow kernels, round seeds 100 red...

Punnett Square 4 describes a cross between two heterozygous parents (PpSs x PpSs). Was this Punnett square a good predictor of offspring phenotypes? Use the results of the chi-square test to support your answer. Chi-square results below: Degrees of Freedom= 3 P-value range= Between 0.500 and 0.050. (p>0.05) Conclusion= There is no significant statistical difference between the observed and expected values.

You are studying a population of squirrels in a city park in McMinniville Tn,. You are interested in this population because it contains some albinos (caused by a recessive allele for fur color). Recent studies in rural areas have shown that albino squirrels suffer predator mortality at a higher rate than normally colored squirrels. You want to know if natural selection acts on albinism in a city park in the same manner that it does in the wild. You go...
