The Deming's red bead game Is basically an experiment conducted by deming inorder to put forward his opinion and thought about the management theory. It is a very powerful explanation to demonstrate the activities of management system that aims to put emphasis on the current conditions or maintaining the status quo thus resulting in resistance to change.
He in his experiment invited certain people for role playing for critical analysis and evaluation inorder to supervise, guide and instruct them for making white beads only.
Deming instructed and laid down strict procedures for employees and made them work in accordance to the norms, rules and regulations. They were told to try as much as to produce white beads otherwise the plant would be closed. On looking at the no improvements , deming concluded the following from the experiment :
Variations are always present in every process and even if we try best , it cannot be eliminated completely.
The past trend or the previous performance of an employee does not ensure the same future performance.
Everything at work e.g the processes, procedures, methods etc cannot be put under the complete control of worker.
Everything does not go as planned no matter how much precautions
are taken.
It is not only the skill or the competence of worker that determines the skills but it is the system in which they are working which influences the performance.
Workers even if having sane knowledge or capability , cannot
perform at par with each other but rather differences mild or large
always exist
Manahers should try to encourage a happy and adoptable
environment.
So basically it can be concluded that red beat game laid
emphasis on critically examining these factors and accordingly
introducing the various techniques to coop up with these factors
that cannot be eliminated but at least can be controlled to some
extend or can be avoided to put any hurdle that come in
between.
It puts focus on studying these factors and making sure to keep
these factors at minimal by creating a favourable work environment
, replacing what is not currently working or contributing enough in
producing the desired outcome.
While as the today's health care system works in a quite different
manner. It aims to put focus on the dynamic and ever changing
environment. It believes there is no such thing which cannot be
improved or eliminated through bringing change. Today's medical
system aims
to find alternative ways of doing a job if the current way does not
work in the manner we want. Technology and innovation has played a
dominant role in facilitating the medical care. It has made
impossible things possible and has eliminated various hurdles or
problems in smooth functioning of health care operations.
The health care today invalidates the notion laid down as a conclusion by red bead game and thus believes that variations can definitely be eliminated by bringing necessary changes , by altering the process, by finding new ways of motivation to employees , by up gradation of operations or by increasing the standards etc.
Overcoming resistance to change is the necessity of the today's health care to be adaptive to the dynamic environment so as to maintain its position likewise.
PS: dear student , hope i explained well in the limited time., please add more if you want.
