WAN topologies cover a much longer distance and larger areas, with much more users. The connection links between WAN sites are a mix of different technologies such as T1, or T3, DSL and many other

1) Bus: In Bus Topology, each WAN site is connected to no more than two other locations in a serial fashion. If one fails it does not effect other node but it is hard to find failed node.

2) Ring: In Ring Topology each site is connected to two other sites so that the entire WAN forms a ring pattern.

3) Star: In star topology, a single site acts as the central connection point for several other sites. It is easy to set up but if central hub fails full network is shuts down.

4) Mesh: In Mesh each site is connected to every other site in the network. Its advantage include it is robust and the fault is found easily but difficult to install

5) Tiered: In Tiered Topology sites in star or ring formation are interconnected at different levels with the interconnection point being organized into layers to form a hierarchical grouping
