Imagine that you just went to the pet store and bought two black guinea pigs that are known to be heterozygous (Bb). You also know that black fur (BB) is dominant over white fur (bb), and that a lethal recessive allele is located only one cM away from the recessive b allele. You decide to start raising your own guinea pigs, but after mating these animals several times, you discover they produce only black progeny.
What is the probability of your two black guinea pigs producing a white offspring? Include all possible genotypes of white offspring.
If an average mating produces 10 offspring, how many matings would it take to produce a white offspring?
The two heterozygous guineapigs, when crossed, will have the following result:
Bb x Bb
BB Bb Bb bb
So, from the cross, it is evident that there will be 1 homozygous black far guineapig, 2 heterozygous black fur guineapigs and 1 while fur guineapig. So the probability is 1/4 = 0.25 %. But since a lethal recessive allele is near the recessive allele b, then maybe they re linked or co-expressed and as a result of which there is no white fur guineapig.
If in average mating there are 10 offsprings then there is a probability of 25% chance or 2.5 offsprings to be white. But if this recessive gene is linked with a lethal allele then there will never be a white fur guineapig since it would die.

1. You just bought two black guinea pigs, one male and one female, of the same genotype from the pet store that are known to be heterozygous (Bb). You also know that black fur (BB) is dominant over white fur (bb) and that a lethal recessive allele is located only one cM away from the recessive b allele, and your animals are both heterozygous for this gene also. What is the probability of finding a white individual among the progeny...
in guinea pigs, the allele for black coat is (B) is dominant over the allele for a white coat (b). at an independently assorting locus, an allele for rough coat (R) is dominant over the allele for smooth coat (r). a guinea pig that is homozygous for black color and rough coat is crossed with a guinea pig with a white, smooth coat. in a fears of matings, the F1 are crossed with guinea pigs having a white, smooth coat....
A population of 464 guinea pigs are bred from a cross of heterozygote parents for two traits: fur color and texture. The dominant allele for fur is black (B), and the recessive allele for fur is white (b). For texture, rough fur is dominant (R), and smooth fur is recessive (r). How many individuals in the population have fur that is black and smooth? 16 261 0 29 Referring to the previous question, what is the phenotypic ratio of the...
In guinea pigs black hair is dominant over white hair. You have several black guinea pigs and several white guinea pigs. You wish to pick out a pair of pure black (homozygous) pigs. Explain how you would determine whether a black guinea pig was homozygous or heterozygous.
In guinea pigs, the allele for short hair is dominant over long hair. If a heterozygous short hair guinea pig is crossed with another heterozygous short hair guinea pig, what is the probability of an offspring having long hair? In pea plants purple flower allele is dominant to white flower alleles. If a homozygous purple flower plant is crossed with a white flower plant, what percent of their offspring would you expect to be purple? Straight fur (S) is dominant...

Directions: For the following questions, create a Punnett square. Be sure to show the genotypes, phenotypes, and percentages for each cross. 1. In guinea pigs, black fur in dominant over white fur. Cross two heterozygous black guinea pigs. 2. In peas, side flowers are dominant over end flowers. Cross a homozygous recessive plant with a heterozygous plant. 3. Black...
In a cross between a black and a white guinea pig, all members of the F1 generation are black. The F2 generation is made up of approximately 3/4 black and 1/4 white guinea pigs. A. Based on this cross, which trait is dominant and which is recessive? What information lead you to your conclusion? B. Diagram this cross, showing the genotypes and phenotypes of parental, F1 and F2 generations. C. What will the offspring be like if two F2 generation...

You are studying the inheritance of coat color in guinea pigs. You hypothesize that dark brown fur(B) is dominant to black fur(b). You mate homozygous black guinea pigs with homozygous brown guinea pigs. All of the F1 offspring have dark brown fur. The F1 offspring breed with each other, producing the F2 generation. Your experiment results in 100 F2 offspring, 30 of the F2 offspring are black and 70 of the F2 offspring are brown. Use Chi square analysis to...
with brown fur and all offspring had black fur. ne of the resulting F2 progeny were brown 7. A guinea pig with black fur was bred to one with brown fur and all offspring na When two of these F1 offspring were bred, some of the resulting F2 progeny while others were black. a. What is the dominant phenotype? How do you know?__ b. Create symbols to represent the alleles for coat color in guinea pigs. Black = Brown =...
