There were many factors that played into the progressive movement and you do touch on many of those. Race was a huge issue and there was growing prejudice against the Jewish because of the Bolshevik Revolution. With so many immigrants entering the U.S. and in concert, more immigration laws being put in place, some American politicians were basically contradicting themselves. Many saw immigrants as the way for economic development, but also held stereotypes against them and believed things about them just because of different ethnicity. This also created instability and for those immigrants that were already in the States and working made up a large majority of the labor force (that frequently went on strikes). So all minorities were definitely affected in some way during the progressive movement, but in this period of time, the focus or concern was more on immigrants coming into the United States from other countries. A positive to Roosevelt’s presidency was his support of the labor movement. Another important aspect to touch on is that although race, gender, and labor relations may have been improved to a certain extent during this time, in no way was it overcome. There was still a lot of work to do especially in regard to race relations and women’s rights. Lastly, it is important to remember that Taft and Wilson both vetoed the legislation to have literacy a prerequisite for adult immigrants because of their belief that immigrants brought economic growth and the U.S. was to be a safe haven for immigrants.
Many factors played an important role in progressive movement and you touch most of the factors. The Bolshevik Revolution caused prejudice against the Jewish and race was an important factor. With that people started immigrating to US and much laws were put into affect contradicting some politicians. Many thought they would help America by bringing economic prosperity but many remained prejudiced against them. It created an unstable situation in the majority of labor force. Hence all minorities were affected in some way or other while focus remained on immigrants comings to the country from other countries. Roosevelt was supportive of labor movement, it was the positive thing. Another important aspect of the story is that the race relation, caste relation and labour relation improved to a extent but it wasn't the end of that. There were lots of things to be done regarding race and women's rights. Finally it was Taft and Wilson, who vetoed in the legislation to make education a prerequisite for adult immigration because of their belief that immigrants help in economic growth of the country and the country should be the safe haven for immigrants.
