Answer #1

Glial cells :-
• Glial cells are "supporting cells" of the nervous system.
Examples - Astrocytes, Schwann cells, microglia, ependal cells etc.
• The main functions of glial cells are:-
(1) to surround neurons and hold them in place
(2) to supply nutrients and oxygen to neurons
(3) to insulate one neuron from another
(4) and to destroy and remove the dead neurons.

Now in question :-
Option (b) is correct answer.
• Glial cells do not release acetylcholine at synapse. Neurotransmitters (acetylcholine) are released from the axon terminal of neurones.

Other options :-
• Schwann cells- Forming myelin around axons to enhance action potential propagation.
• Astrocytes - formation of the blood brain barrier.
taking up neurotransmitter to terminate synaptic signaling.
• Microglia - scavenging bacteria and debris from dead cells.

The Brain on Mind Altering Drugs Psychoactive drugs alter brain function by acting at synapses in the brain, where they may mimic, enhance, or block the effects of natural signaling molecules (neurotransmitters). The neurotransmitter dopamine plays a particularly important role in creating the dependency aspect of both drug and behavioral addictions. Natural behaviors which enhance survival and/or reproduction, such as eating or engaging in sex, result in a surge of dopamine. Normally, this response helps individuals learn to repeat beneficial...

Neurons are electrically excitable cells in the nervous system that function to process and transmit information from one part the body to another, through specialized connections called synapses. The signaling process is partly electrical and partly chemical. In vertebrate animals, neurons are the core components of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Neurons carry messages in the form of electrical signals called nerve impulses or action potentials. An action potential occurs when the resting membrane potential at a specific...

A 35 year old female presents with a history of several episodes, each separated by several months, in which she experiences brief periods of physical weakness, clumsiness of the legs and hands, visual disturbances, and mood swings. Her weakness is most prominent in the lower extremities. CT scans show evidence of multiple lesions in the white matter of the brain and spinal cord. During her last episode, there were increasing neurological deficits due to an increasing number of disseminated lesions....
