a) They represent an efficient system for diffuse, non-directional activation of broad, two dimensional effector sheets which is required by organisms with radial, non-cephalized body constructions like the cnidarians.
b) In nerve nets, the neurons are spread far apart compared to the neurons of the central nervous system where it is grouped together. This allows cnidarians to respond to physical contact through which they can detect food and other chemicals in a rudimentary way.
2> Disadvantages of nerve nets :-
a) These nerve nets does not help the cnidarians to detect the source of the stimulus in their environment.
b) Nerve nets used for excitation of muscle sheets produce relatively modest velocities of conduction found both in circular and radial directions.
