How were politics apparent in popular culture during the most recent presidential election? Give specific examples. What effect can popular culture have on peoples’ political opinions? Is pop culture’s effect on the communication of political ideas beneficial or harmful to society? Support your argument.
answer-
Popular culture means the majority of population have the common beliefs, values and objects which dominant the minority population. Popular culture is the accumulation of cultural products such as music, art, literature, fashion, dance, film, cyberculture, television and radio that are consumed by the majority of a society's population. Popular culture has mass accessibility and appeal.
During the recent presidential election between Hillary Clinton and trump, they both tried to take advantage of popular culture in terms of celebrity influence because these celebrities represents millions and millions of people in US and they follow them. for example if one celebrity is supporting one candidate then there are high chances that the followers of that particular celebrity would give vote to that candidate.
the 2016 presidential candidates are making use of popular advertising strategies, producing catchy commercials, putting out theme songs and seeking celebrity endorsements, Kasper says, noting that candidates from both major parties are engaging in these tactics . many celebrities have already publicly announced support for candidates.
For example, Katy Perry and George Clooney are among the big names offering their support to Hillary Clinton, while Mike Tyson and Ted Nugent have endorsed Donald Trump. Kid Rock says he’s a Ben Carson fan, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is attaching his name to Bernie Sanders’ campaign.
for example-Having celebrities appear at candidate rallies can help draw bigger crowds to those rallies, which makes the candidate appear to have a great deal of support .
popular culture like above example can change the political opinions because when they follow their role models then they tend to change their votes like if one of their role model was supporting trump but follower want to give vote to clinton but changes his mind and give vote to trump because of his role model support.I think this would be beneficial for candidates but not for society because this could put the country's authority in wrong hands. people should choose what they think is right not the influence of others. these celebrities who are their role models may get paid for giving their support but at the end of the day wrong president can be trouble for entire nation.
*hope above answer would help you.
