1. In a company, it is very important to understand the costs under each head. Which area is taking how much of the investment. And when the business is selling the products online, it is sure to increase the cost of IT structure and networks in the company. To save from a situation where these costs exceed the revenues and become a hurdle in the profit earning capacity of the business certain steps should be taken to reduce these costs and minimise the consumption of the IT units making the maximum output from them. One such head is power consumption. IT department can be the highest power consumers in the company. Thus bringing changes in practices to use it can also bring huge impacts. The environmental design steps can be taken to reduce the power consumption with the information systems can be by rightsizing the power infrastructure. Carbon offsets or wind power can be used. The UPS size and power will have to be rightsized. The power consumers for batteries for short term and long term outages can be divided into three categories to decrease the effect of waste stream generated by these devices. The categories can be critical, essential and non-essential. The critical ones will be generating the main business and thus cannot be interrupted. The essential loads can be interrupted for a short while like the printers. scanners etc and the non-essential power loads can be stopped from use in such situations. Simplifying operations and using VLAN for networking can help in consolidation of power supply.
