Motivational theory for Boomers :
There are various labels to describe the generations. Hence baby-boomers are the very first generation after World War-II. The bloomers include all those who were born between the years 1946-1964. As the birth rate was high after the second world war, this generation covers a great portion of the world population and 20 % of the US population. The people of this generation had lived a lavish life as higher levels of income and also had high expenditure on food, clothes and holiday. Maslow's theory of need motivates this generation. As the theory states about the human needs which arises one after one. Thus this theory says that the need s are divided into different levels such as Physiological needs, Safety needs, Social needs, Esteem needs, and Self-actualization, and each level of need should be satisfied to climb onto the other. One of the important factors of this theory is the feel-good factor. As the fell good factor is met, the higher-level needs are also met. Therefore the bloomer focuses more on human needs and its satisfaction.
Motivational theory for Millenials :
Millennials are the people born between the years 1980-2000. The young adults are called as Millenials. The people of this generation face lots of issues such as recession, unemployment, economic instability, less income, less satisfied life, etc. According to the survey carried out by Randstad, the percentage of people who get motivated through money rewards is 32%, by opportunities is 20%, good work is 12% and the good package is 10%. Thus a motivational theory which goes this generation is McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y. This theory states the motivational factors which affects the behaviors of employees. Two theories Theory X and Theory Y were developed with a different perspective. Theory X emphasizes the negative human nature such as laziness, irresponsible and do not want to work. Theory Y, on the other hand, focuses on the positive behavior of human, stating that people are not lazy or irresponsible, and also can enjoy work. Therefore, according to Theory X assumptions employees get motivated by monetary rewards and by the threat of punishment, on the other hand, theory Y focuses on setting the personal goals of the employee with the organization’s also to create a healthy work environment. Therefore the Millenials get intrinsically motivated by the benefits they get at the workplace such as job security, balanced work-life, and good rewards.
