Yes, there is correlation between BMI and subtype of cancer. The correlation between them is physiologically based on the body's metabolism of different persons having different Body mass index. So higher the BMI, more prone a person to be towards acquiring cancer. Not necessarily that every obese person should have cancer, but yes it increases the risk of having cancer. This could be seen in large number of population. We study a pattern of occurance of subtype of cancer in a large population sorting high BMI and low BMI people, and then studying them; we will observe a pattern. Persons with high BMI have tendency to acquire subtypes of cancer that are hard to get rid of or are very powerful source for tumours in the body. These tumours in such persons have higher tendency to be malignant than benign. So here we see how obese people are effected by more harshful subtypes of cancer. On the other hand , people with lower BMI tend to show resistance to high celular interfering substances or malignant tumours. Body's metabolism plays a important role in balancing the requirements but if we provide it with excessive of anything, it will repel and its effects on the body will be disasterous.
