1) Use real-world examples to outline the steps of the speciation process (both dispersal and vicariance) and to differentiate between allopatric and sympatric speciation.
2) Describe the various ways reproductive isolation could occur and lead to speciation (both prezygotic and postzygotic mechanisms).
1. Speciation process involves following three stages:
(i) Separation: Separation occurs when a part of population gets separated from the rest of the population. When a group of individuals of a species are separated by a natural barrier for example newly formed canyon, mountain range, or from a lake. This helps population to grow and adapt in a new environment and get separated from rest of the species. In sharks separation occurs when they get separated from tidal waves, tsunamis, and underground sea canyons.
(ii) Adaptation: Adaptation happens when a group of individual of a species are exposed to new environment. As result of environmental change they acquire differnt traits to adapt in that environment. Example of adaptation is the color of the great white sharks, because its color is very difficult to see in the dark and at the rocky bottom where it usually swims.
(iii) Reproductive isolation: Reproductive isolation means when groups of same species cannot interbreed anymore due to adaptation to different environment to make them more fit for the new environment. Different types of sharks cannot interbreed, for examples hammerhead, bull, and great white sharks.
Difference between allopatric and sympatric speciation:
| Allopatric | Sympatric |
|
Species are living in different environment and niche |
Species are living in the same environment and niche. |
| Because of differnt environment they develope differet traits | They differ because of other reproductive reasons, for example different mating time |
2. Prezygotic isolation is prevention of formation of zygote. It usually happens because two species cannot mate and eggs cannot be fertilized.
Postzygotic isolation is inability of produce offsprings and resulting into end of the lineage progression, it includes hybrid inviability, hybrid sterility and hybrid "breakdown."

QUESTION 14 Below is a cartoon depicting various geological events, starting with one large island (panel 1) and ending with four smaller islands sequentially splitting off from each other (panels 2 to 5). Initially, there was only Species A inhabiting on the big island. However, as time went on, more species evolved on these smaller islands, such that at the current time (panel 5), there are five species. Their phylogenetic relationships are shown on the last panel. Please answer questions...
What are the common myths about evolution and why are they wrong? Name and describe the three results of natural selection that can create changes in the percentages of alleles in a population? What are the allopatric and the sympatric speciation? Give examples of each. What are the two major types of barriers that result in reproductive isolation? Give several examples of each type that prevents the result of healthy, fertile offspring between two different species. Trace our hominid ancestor...

Under nearly all circumstances, postzygotic reproductive
isolation cannot evolve under the direct action of natural
selection. Instead, postzygotic isolation evolves as a by-product
of other genetic changes as proto-species diverge. In contrast,
natural selection can directly act to enhance prezygotic
reproductive isolation. Consider two species with overlapping
ranges. If hybrids between the species are less fit than pure
species individuals, females that mated with heterospecific males
would be at a selective disadvantage, because their resulting
offspring had low fitness....

We conducted a comprehensive literature search on drones in conservation up to October 2nd 2018, in line with related studies [10,11,35]. All searches were done by the same person in English, mainly using Google Scholar. This was further complemented through reference harvesting, citation tracking, abstracts in conference programs, and author search, using Research Gate and Mendeley (see PRISMA Flowchart in Supplementary Figure S1 Checklist and list of studies reviewed in Table S1). We then removed duplicate and unrelated results. Finally,...
