Although DDT use has been banned in agriculture, its use is permitted in controlling infectious diseases like malaria. In 2006, the World Health Organization announced increased support for the use of DDT in preventing malaria. DDT has low acute toxicity but is a persistent organic pollutant that harms the environment and human health. What is your take on this issue of DDT utilization in combatting malaria or other mosquito-borne diseases in sub-Saharan Africa? Discuss.
Question
I am against of using DDT in combatting the malaria or other mosquito -borne diseases. This is because although DDT is useful in preventing the malaria but at the same time it is toxic for the health of human and other animals and plant. So, DDT have only one advantage but many disadvantages. Our researchers could find other alternative of the DDT that could be a biopesticide instead of any chemical pesticide. This biopesticide will not be toxic to any organism , whether it is a plant or an animal. We could not risk the so many lives of the organism just to treat malaria in the Saharan Africa and should try to find alternative of the DDT.
