Describe the three fundamental characteristics of computers (Speed, Reliability, and Consistency) that make them valuable for us. Describe how these attributes make computers valuable to us.
Speed:- As humans we can't perform larger and complex calculations within seconds. We need time and sometimes a large amount of time. But computers can perform these types of calculations within seconds. They can perform about a million instructions in one second. Speed is necessary for faster working of everything around us whether it is banking or ticket booking or sending a mail. All these tasks are performed by computer within seconds. Without speed everything will be delayed and we will waste a lot of time.
Reliability:- The computer gives similar result to same type of data. Humans can make errors and provide different answers to similar questions but computers can;t. If computers won't provide similar type of results to similar data then it can lead to false information providing. For example in a cancer detection algorithm if the computer makes error and is not reliable then it will give positive result for a person who is not affected by cancer. Similarly will provide different answers for similar type of calculations which will lead to a lot of errors.
Consistency:- The computers should be consistent all the time. The computer should work at same pace and with same accuracy all the time. Otherwise some operations will be fast while some will be slow. Sometimes it will also lead to incorrect answers which will lead to chaos in banking and other industries that are totally dependent on computers.
